Pencil, eraser, line, rectangle, ellipse and fill tool. Each stroke activates real dots: the same dots you'll read later.

Convert an image

Convert a photo or drawing on your computer into braille. Import it and adjust it to suit your needs.

Editing

Visible dots are combined into a single composition. Undo, redo, and move, rotate or resize selections without losing your work.

How it works

From your drawing to the braille file

Draw or import

Draw by hand, import a picture, or type cells in Perkins mode. It's all in points.

Draw with layers

Multiple layers are combined by merging their dots: the final drawing is a single composition.

Export as text

Export as .brf or .bra for embossing, as .txt to paste elsewhere, or as .pbraille if you want to continue later.

What it's not (yet)

It is not a text-to-braille transcriber: it exports dot geometry, not linguistic translation.
The canvas and composition are visual; Perkins mode and the controls can be operated with a keyboard.
We work to make our tools 100% accessible, but this tool is fundamentally visual.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a text-to-braille converter?

No. PaintBraille is a graphics editor: you draw dots and the program exports them as Unicode braille, Braille ASCII, or .brf and .bra files for a braille embosser.

Does it work with a screen reader or braille display?

The controls, focus handling, messages and Perkins mode are designed to be keyboard-accessible. The canvas and the spatial understanding of the drawing are visual: reading characters sequentially is not an equivalent representation of the graphic.

Where are my drawings stored?

They stay in your browser, and you can download the results. We do not store your drawings. Imported images never leave your device.
