Take part in the study

This document is separate from the Terms of Use. Those Terms govern use of the tool; this document explains what we ask of you if you also want to help us evaluate it, and what we do with the information you provide.
The essentials, in four sentences
- Participation is voluntary. You can use PaintBraille without participating in the study.
- You can withdraw at any time, without giving a reason and without losing access to the tool.
- We do not collect your drawings. They remain in your browser during the study too.
- The results are published in aggregate: nobody will be able to tell who said what.
What the study is for
We want to find out whether PaintBraille is genuinely useful for preparing tactile materials in real-world work, and where it falls short. We are not looking for praise: we want to know where it gets in the way, how long tasks take and what you feel is missing. Critical feedback is more useful to us than polite praise.
These results will help us decide whether the product is worth developing further, what needs to be improved first, and allow us to present it to institutions with supporting data.
What we're going to ask for
- Prepare some tactile graphics with PaintBraille, like those you would normally create for your work.
- Write down how long it takes and what you found difficult.
- Answer a short survey at the end.
- If you want, a half-hour conversation to calmly tell us what the survey does not collect.
Steps 1 to 3 make up the basic study. Step 4 is optional and requested separately.

There is no telemetry during the study. The program does not send what you do with it anywhere: we will only know what you tell us. This is a firm condition of this study and will not change while it is running. If PaintBraille measured anything in the future, it would happen later and would be explained beforehand on the cookies page and would not affect anything you have already provided here.
How the results are published
As aggregate figures and conclusions: “most participants took less time with PaintBraille for this type of tactile graphic”, “several participants pointed out that…”. If we quote something you said because it explains a point well, it will be without your name and we will ask you first.
With a small sample, sometimes a very specific piece of data can point to a person even if they don't have a name. When that happens, that detail is not published.
Your rights during the study
- Withdraw at any time by writing to soporte@paintbraille.com. You do not need to give a reason, and it will not affect your access to the tool.
- Ask us to delete what you have already given us, as long as it has not already been integrated into an aggregated result from which it cannot be separated. If that happens we will tell you clearly.
- Don't answer a specific question you don't want to answer.
- Your other data rights are explained in the privacy policy.
What you get in return
Honestly: nothing material. There is no payment or compensation. You receive free access to the tool during the pilot and, if you want, the report with the results when it is.
We prefer to put it this clearly before you spend your time.

This study is not sponsored by any institution and has not been approved by an ethics committee. It is an independent study, and you should know that before taking part.
How consent is given
At the start of the study, we'll ask you to confirm that you've read this information. We record the date and the version of the text you accepted, so there is a clear record of what you agreed to.
